Welcome to Terrance Palmer.com!
He’s played on the stages of Africa, Australia, Canada, Europe, South America, New Zealand, and all throughout the United States. He’s played for nearly every major Gospel artist who has ever recorded. He’s won Grammy’s, Stellar’s, Dove’s and Soul Train music awards. He’s renown bass guitarist Terrance Palmer.
Palmer’s debut Jazz CD, “Love Letter,” is a 12-song compilation featuring a blend of jazzy instrumentals, Palmer’s contemporary gospel roots with a hint of R&B. Five years in the making, “Love Letter” demonstrates Palmer’s full range of musical ability not only as a musician, but as an arranger and producer.
Palmer’s musical journey began with his mother first noticing her only child’s keen sense of music at the age of three. Years later his pianist uncle would share his gift of music with him. Several instruments later and after transforming an acoustic guitar into a bass, Palmer proclaimed the bass to be a good fit for him at 17 years of age. He initially honed his skills during a short stint of formal training in the latter part of his high school reign. Within only two years, Palmer was on stage with the likes of legendary artists Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin; while adding his rhythmic blend on albums for the gospel great Thomas Whitfield.
Upon reflection, Palmer knew that by age 17, his destiny was fulfilled. The bass guitar has allowed him to share his gift with thousands of people both nationally and globally. Seeing first-hand the energy and exuberance of live audiences inspires Palmer during performances--an experience incapable of being duplicated.
A former founding member of Fred Hammond and Radical for Christ, Palmer credits Hammond for introducing him to studio production and sequencing. Eight years later he became a founding member in the gospel group Israel Houghton and New Breed, where Palmer appreciates the partnership he formed with music director Aaron Lindsey and founder Israel Houghton to create a new movement in Gospel music. With over twenty years of experience, Palmer’s vision is to one day host seminars throughout the United States to empower and educate young musicians about the industry.
When not on tour, Palmer can be found with his wife and three children playing at his home church, Straight Gate International in Detroit, Michigan under the direction of Bishop Andrew and Pastor Viveca Merritt.
